Greetings.

I wish to share with you some information. Fr. Mathew Puthumana handed over the Parish to Fr. Salema as Parish Priest, then he was transfered to DBYES to work in Tangaza. We have received news that this evening Fr. Mathew Puthumana was in our community at Iringa, Tanzania, and was going to the parish church to help with confessions of the faithful. As he was crossing the road using the zebra crossing he was knocked by a speeding boda boda (motor bike). He was severely injured. He was rushed to Iringa regional hospital and was taken straight to ICU assisted by our confreres in Iringa and the faithful. I would like to announce to you with a heavy heart and lots of sadness that the doctors pronounced Fr. Mathew dead at 6.15pm. It is indeed very sad and too heavy to bear. But our faith calls us to accept the plan of the Lord. May Fr. Matthew's soul rest in peace as he enjoys the company of saints in heaven. On behalf of the our Salesian Province and Fr. Provincial, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to Fr. Kulwa, who has been Fr. Mathew's rector, and the entire Salesian. I shall keep you informed about the arrangements. May Fr. Mathew Puthumana's soul rest in peace.
