About Jumuyias

St. Monica Small Christian community was started in 2001 by residents of Funguo Estate with a mission of providing an enabling environment within the community that would enhance members' spiritual growth, develop Christian role models, supports the parish in achieving its mission, and support each other morally and spiritually.

Our small Christian community comprises a family unit that includes children, youth, fathers, and mothers. It has approximately 32 families registered as members. The members are drawn from Funguo, Akila, Highrise, Airport View, and Ngumo.

BIOGRAPHY OF OUR PATRON SAINT

St. Monica was the mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. She is remembered and honored for her outstanding Christian virtues, particularly the suffering caused by her husband's adultery, and her prayerful life dedicated to the reformation of her son.

PRAYER OF JUMUIA

Dear St. Monica, you were a troubled mother of St. Augustine and wife of your husband Patricius. You encountered many problems and challenges throughout your life but neither did you despair nor lose faith. You prayed daily with confidence, persistence, and profound faith for the conversion of your husband and your son. Therefore, I beg you to pray for me to God so that He grants me the same fortitude, patience, and trust in Him.

I also beg you, dear St. Monica, to intercede for me to the Almighty Father that I may be granted the grace to accept God's will in all things.

I pray for all these through Jesus Christ, our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen

NOVENA OF OUR PATRON SAINT

Sainted Mother of Augustine the sinner, the Lord Jesus mercifully regarded your tears. The conversion of your son to a genuinely holy life was the fruit of your prayers. From the heights of your heavenly home, a happy mother of your saintly son, pray for those who wander far from God and add your prayers to those of all parents who sorrow over the straying souls of their sons or daughters. Pray for us that, following your example and that of all God's children, we may at length enjoy the eternal vision of our Father in Heaven. Amen

Dear Saint Monica, you were once the mournful mother of a prodigal son. Your faithfulness to prayer brought you and your son so close to God that you are now with him in eternity. By your intercession and God's grace, your son St. Augustine became a great and venerable Saint of the Church. Please take my request to God with the same fervor and persistence with which you prayed for your own son. (Mention your intentions here) With your needs, worries, and anxieties, you threw yourself on the mercy and providence of God. Through sorrow and pain, you constantly devoted yourself to God. Pray for me, that I might join you in such a deep faith God's goodness and mercy. Above all, dear Saint Monica, pray for me, that I may like your son, turn from my sin and become a great saint for the glory of God. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
